Meet Ally (That's Me!)

About me

I'll be honest, I never imagined I'd end up here. My career path has been anything but conventional, and that's exactly what makes me good at what I do now. I definitely bring something unique to the table…..Me!

The Winding Road to Celebrancy

I've worn a fair few hats over the years. I served in the military, which taught me discipline, reliability, and how to stay calm when things don't go to plan (a surprisingly useful skill at outdoor weddings). I've run my own business, learning the importance of really listening to people and tailoring everything to what they actually need, not just what you think they want. I have even spent 5 years as a domestic plumber ‘Ally Law Lady Plumber’ - it was at a time when there wasn’t many of us around so I know what good banter is all about.
Then there's the music side of things. I've spent years as a vocal coach, choir director, and engaging others in the benefits of singing, which means I'm very comfortable standing in front of people and filling a room with my voice, no microphone anxiety here. Plus, I know how to set the right tone for any moment, whether that's joyful and celebratory or quiet and reflective.
And yes, I competed on BBC Bargain Hunt. That happened. If you want to see me in action (and have a laugh), there's video evidence floating around. To be honest, I think I was very entertaining. What can I say? I'm game for most things.

Why I Love This Work

Being a celebrant brings together everything I've learned from those varied careers, the discipline, the communication skills, the public speaking confidence, the ability to read a room and adapt on the fly. But more than that, it lets me be genuinely me.
I'm 56, I'm comfortable in my own skin, and I say it as it is. I'm not a "girly girl" (never have been), I'm full of positivity, and I genuinely love people and their stories. Apparently, I've got a bit of a Miranda Hart vibe personality-wise, minus the physical comedy. Bear with!
What I love most about this job is creating moments where people feel something. Where couples relax enough to actually enjoy their own wedding ceremony. Where families find comfort in hearing their loved one's story told with warmth and truth. Where guests leave saying, "I've never been to a ceremony like that before." I love my job and many tell me they can tell.

My Approach

I'm all about getting to know you properly. When we meet (or chat on Zoom), I'm going to ask you questions. Lots of them. Not because I'm nosy, but because the best ceremonies come from really understanding who you are, not just the surface stuff, but the stories, the quirks, the moments that define you.
For weddings, I want to know how you met, what made you certain about each other, the in-jokes that make you both laugh, the thing your partner does that drives you mad but also makes you smile. I'll find a way to weave all of that into a ceremony that feels authentically you.
For funerals, I'll sit with you and listen to everything you want to share about the person you're remembering. The funny stories, the proud moments, the little mannerisms that made them special. We'll talk about how they made people feel, what mattered to them, and how we can honour all of it in a way that feels right for your family.
Then I'll take all of that and craft something that's warm, personal, and memorable. My style is energized and welcoming, with appropriate touches of humor when it fits. I can include religious elements if you want them, or keep things entirely humanist, it's completely your call.

What Makes Me Different

  • I'm Genuinely Confident

Not in an arrogant way, but in the "I've stood in front of hundreds of people countless times and I know how to hold a room" way. That confidence helps you feel more relaxed, which makes for a better ceremony all round.

  • I'm Adaptable

Military background plus years of performing means I can think on my feet. Rain at your outdoor ceremony? Kids making noise during the vows? Uncle Jim's "hilarious" commentary? I've got it covered without missing a beat.

  • I Listen Properly

This might sound basic, but I actually hear what you're telling me, including the things you're not quite saying. That attention to detail is what transforms a nice ceremony into one that feels like it was made just for you.

  • I Make Things Easy

Clear communication, straightforward processes, and I'll guide you through everything without overwhelming you. You've got enough to think about, your ceremony shouldn't add stress.

Beyond Celebrancy

My other interests

When I'm not creating ceremonies, you'll probably find me involved in music somehow (old habits die hard), spending time with my family, or continuing my lifelong habit of saying yes to new experiences.
I'm a wife and a mum, which means I genuinely understand the significance of family milestones and the moments that shape our lives. It's partly why I take this work so seriously, because I know how much these occasions matter.

My Promise to You

Whether I'm celebrating your wedding or helping you say goodbye to someone you love, I promise to bring warmth, professionalism, empathy, and a genuine commitment to getting it right. Your ceremony will be crafted with care, delivered with confidence, and filled with moments that feel unmistakably you.
No cut and paste scripts. No going through the motions. Just ceremonies that actually mean something.
